Origin: Carved out of several adjacent towns, this town was named in honor of Governor John Langdon. Governor Langdon was active in the Revolution, and also owned a ship-building business in Portsmouth. He was a delegate to the Constitutional Convention and served on a committee with Benjamin Franklin and John Adams to secure military supplies for the American forces. Governor Langdon served as a member of the State senate, was Speaker of the House of Representatives, and served as president pro-tem of the Senate in the first United States Congress, supervising the canvass of electoral votes to elect Washington as President. He was an eight-term as Governor of New Hampshire.

Population Trends: Population change for Langdon totaled 210 over 50 years, from 378 in 1950 to 588 in 2000. The largest decennial percent change was a 33 percent increase between 1980 and 1990, which followed a 30 percent increase over the previous decade. The 2005 Census estimate for Langdon was 658 residents, which ranked 210th among New Hampshire's incorporated cities and towns.
